Our Story

Foundational Fitness Chiropractic Health Center was developed to address a glaring shortcoming of traditional chiropractic care, exercise. There is a growing body of evidence that movement and exercise is not only the best remedy for pain, but also the best protective measure an individual can perform to prevent injury. We strongly believe that everybody is capable of becoming an athlete. To be an athlete does not mean you have to participate in traditional sports. Mountain biking, hiking, football, playing with your grandkids, dancing, or even maintaining balance in icy conditions is what we consider athletic. No matter your background or goals, we will help optimize your health and fitness so you can enjoy your life. 

Meet The Team

Jake is the cofounder of Foundational Fitness along with Dr. Mackayla. He grew up on the Iron Range of northern Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota - Duluth where he studied biochemistry, chemistry, and music theory. He then continued his graduate studies at Northwestern Health Sciences University where he is a currently finishing his Doctor of Chiropractic. Upon graduation he will join the Foundational Fitness team as another chiropractic provider. 

Jake is looking to work with athletes who want to optimize performance. He considers anybody doing an activity to be an athlete. This could include a high school student just starting their sporting career, an elderly individual looking to improve their stamina to keep up with grandkids, or a college athlete trying to gain a competitive edge at the peak of their careers. Jake is excited to see what kind of changes he can produce in all of your athletic endeavors.

Jake enjoys reading, exploring outdoors, weightlifting, and playing music. You can frequently find him at the piano bench or playing his saxophone to unwind.   

Dr. Mackayla Wayerski is the cofounder and lead Doctor of Foundational Fitness. She grew up in central Wisconsin where she attended University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. She received her bachelor’s degree in human biology and Doctor of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University. While attending NWHSU, she was exposed to many different ideas of what chiropractic care could look like. This is where she met the other cofounder of Foundational Fitness, Jake, and found that they shared a common vision of care. This vision includes movement and exercise built directly into the treatments for patients.


She specializes in treating women in their 20s-50s who are looking to improve their quality of life but are unsure where to start. However, Dr. Mack enjoys working with all people from infants to the elderly and is eager to help reshape your life.


In her spare time, Dr. Mack enjoys Sunday mornings reading on the couch with a cup of coffee, hiking, and spending time with her dog named Twinkle. You can frequently catch her hiking local trails and camping at backcountry sites.
